Jason Houser

Jason HouserJason Houser is an accomplished music writer and producer who has worked with some of today’s most popular Country and Contemporary Christian artists. But if you ask Jason what he’s most excited about these days, he responds: “Seeds Family Worship.”

The two newest Seeds Family Worship CDs were released in late 2005: Seeds of Purpose and Seeds of Faith. These come on the heels of the successful first two releases in the series: Seeds of Courage and Seeds of Faith, which came out in the spring of 2004.

So what makes Seeds more exciting than writing a No. 1 Country or CCM song?

“Seeds is high energy music that both parents and kids can enjoy — and enjoy together,” Jason says. “As you’re singing the songs and worshiping, you’re actually learning God’s Word. Using Scripture as our lyrics, the songs really help kids better understand that God has a purpose for their lives and that He wants us all to praise Him.”

Seeds were planted for this music series several years ago when Jason was asked to write melodies to some Scripture verses to be used in Vacation Bible School at his church. By week’s end, the children were singing the verses with great joy.

Soon after, Jason and Michael Martin created the Seeds Family Worship series, which is distributed by Provident Music. Jason produces the series, and sings and writes many of the tracks. In addition, he travels to churches throughout the country helping families worship together through Seeds Family Worship Events.

Jason has been based in Nashville since 1988. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Bachelor’s Degree in Music Industry from Belmont University.

Since then, he has worked with many of the top songwriters and artists in the industry as a music publisher. He spent four years as a Creative Director at EMI Music, where he placed songs with George Strait, Trisha Yearwood, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, The Dixie Chicks, Martina McBride, Reba McEntire, and many other popular artists. He was also instrumental in securing the record deals for Darryl Worley and Jamie O’Neal.

In 2000, he began Extreme Writers Group (EWG) with Michael Martin and veteran producer Tim DuBois (Universal South Records). EWG is a music publishing and content development company that works in both the Country and Christian markets. EWG has had songs recorded in the country market by Faith Hill, Joy Williams, Trace Adkins, Matthew West, Jo Dee Messina, Clay Walker, Tracy Byrd, Gary Allan, Kenny Rogers, Hot Apple Pie, Terri Clark, and many others. Extreme had one of the 10 most performed songs of 2004, according to Billboard Magazine, with “Sweet Southern Comfort,” recorded by Buddy Jewell.

In the Christian music industry, Jason produced an independent record for Matthew West entitled Sellout, which opened the door for West’s record deal with Universal South / Sparrow. Jason teamed up with Kenny Greenberg to produce Matthew’s debut release Happy. The three co-wrote Mathew’s debut single “More,” which spent nine weeks at the top of the Christian Music charts and earned the ASCAP Song of the Year. Jason also co-produced Matthew West’s current release History, which includes the hit single “Next Thing You Know.” He also co-wrote Joy Williams’ debut single “Hide,” which was a No. 1 song for seven weeks.

Jason and his wife Heidi live in Franklin, Tennessee with their three children: Ben, Brandon, and Abigail. They attend Harpeth Community Church, where he is involved in volunteer work with children and youth.
