Don Poythress

Don Poythress is a noted songwriter with Extreme Writers Group and Big Loud Shirt in Nashville, Tennessee. He is also signed with Integrity/Hosanna Music in Mobile, Alabama.

He was born in Meridian, Mississippi, the home of Jimmie Rodgers, and has lived and worked in Nashville since 1986. He has penned songs that have been recorded by Willie Nelson, Bonnie Raitt, Sheryl Crow (You Remain), Tim McGraw (Comfort Me), Daryll Worley, Sir Cliff Richard, Brian Littrell, Niall Toner, The Marie Sisters, The Wikinsons, Leslie Satcher, Andrea Zonn, Nashville Bluegrass Band, Daryl Worley, Andy Childs and Bill Gaither among many others. His Dove Award-winning Song “The Promise” as sung by The Martins, was awarded top recorded song in the Southern Gospel Category in 2004. Don was nominated for a 2006 Dove Award for “Lay it Down” as recorded by Jaci Velasquez and the London Symphony Orchestra. Don is also known as a performer in his own right, appearing on such stages as the Grand Ole Opry, the Louisiana Hayride as well as performing for four years at Opryland USA.

Don is also a regular at the legendary Bluebird Cafe in Nashville. Don has been a worship leader at Abundant Life Church in Mt. Juliet, TN, for the past 11 years.
